HIUV’s Multi-Encapsulate Film Scheme Tackles UVID, Boosting Bankability in Shago Wasteland Projects

                    Views: Date:2025-10-10

On September 25, 2025, the 2nd Photovoltaic Measurement and Testing Technology Conference was successfully held in Suzhou. Co-sponsored by the Shanghai Solar Energy Society and Hengzhuo Photovoltaic, and guided by the Photovoltaic Special Committee of the China Metrology and Testing Society, the event gathered over 300 technical experts from across the photovoltaic (PV) ecosystem. Participants included professionals from measurement and testing institutions, academic research centers, cell and module manufacturers, equipment suppliers, material developers, and PV system integrators.

The conference focused on the theme: “How Metrology and Testing Can Ensure the High-Quality Development of Photovoltaics”, with in-depth discussions around key industry pain points such as dark degradation, sub-steady-state behavior, and ultraviolet-induced degradation (UVID). Other concerns like light/dark film performance and full-scenario reliability and power generation efficiency were also central topics.

As a VIP guest at the conference, HIUV introduced its latest film solution to address UVID, a growing concern in the photovoltaic industry.

                    Facing the UVID Crisis:

Industry Pain Points and Financial Barriers

As PV technology transitions to N-type cells, the issue of ultraviolet-induced degradation (UVID) is becoming increasingly critical. UV radiation degrades silicon-hydrogen (Si-H) passivation bonds and breaks Al-O (aluminum-oxide) bonds, leading to reduced chemical and field passivation effects and, ultimately, power loss in modules.

This power degradation not only reduces operational efficiency for power plants but also raises concerns among financial institutions. For example, European banks often prioritize module bankability when financing PV projects. Since UVID directly impacts power output and return on investment, it has become a bottleneck that limits the financial viability of large-scale PV deployments.

                    Breaking the HJT Dilemma:

                    0-Migration Optical Film + Multi-Encapsulation = A Strong Defense

In response to the UVID issue affecting HJT (heterojunction) modules, HIUV pioneered a 0-migration optical film—a major innovation in mitigating UVID degradation.

Traditional light-converting films pose three key risks:

                    1. Migration of light-converting agents

                    2. Cross-contamination between layers

                    3. Oxygen intrusion

Under the combined effects of oxygen and UV exposure, conventional films experience deterioration in light-conversion efficiency, leading to component performance failure.

HIUV's 0-migration optical film utilizes a proprietary technique to tightly bind fluorescent materials to the film's polymer matrix. After rigorous testing at 150°C for 96 hours, the film demonstrated a migration value of only 0.33 mg/L, with no visible fine-grid migration, a significant improvement over traditional films (which showed 7.73 mg/L migration and clear grid damage).

                    Multi-Layered Protection:

                    Water- and Oxygen-Resistant Film Systems

HIUV didn’t stop there. The solution was further enhanced with a multi-layer film system offering “water resistance + oxygen resistance”. The specially developed PXP oxygen-resistant film, when used in combination with the 0-migration optical film and anti-migration high cut-off film, forms a comprehensive protection system.

In HJT module reliability tests, this layered encapsulation demonstrated exceptional performance, effectively shielding components from oxygen and water vapor, and completely solving the problem of UVID attenuation.

                    Supporting TOPCon Evolution:

UVB2 Film Extends Optical Film Application Scenarios

For TOPCon modules facing UVID challenges, HIUV introduced the UVB2 cut-off film. This film offers efficient ultraviolet absorption in the UVB band (280–320 nm), while maintaining similar visible light transmittance to conventional films—minimizing any negative impact on power output.

The UVB2 film also features excellent resin compatibility, ensuring uniform dispersion. After UV aging (UV60) tests, the film showed only 0.15 yellowing, far outperforming similar products, and offering long-lasting UVID protection for TOPCon modules.

                    Custom Solutions for Shago Wilderness:

                    Multi-Film Combinations Address Harsh Environments

Beyond standard applications, HIUV extended its optical film technology to the challenging Shago wasteland—a region characterized by high temperatures, intense UV radiation, dust, and large temperature variations. These harsh conditions, combined with high-end customer demands for performance, prompted the development of a customized, high-value encapsulation system.

                    The “l(fā)ight-converting film + anti-migration high cut-off film + oxygen-resistant film” combination can:

                    · Mitigate UVID-induced degradation

                    · Reduce power loss from high temperatures (up to 25W)

                    · Minimize transmittance loss due to dust

                    · Delay material aging from temperature swings

This customized solution maximizes module lifespan and efficiency, ensuring robust performance in extreme outdoor environments.
